Chapter 15
Chen Yueyang’s nanny car stopped on the side of the road. The illegitimate fans from the three Wuling Hongguang cars immediately took out their camera equipment, aiming their short cannons at the blocked nanny car.
When two long legs stepped out from behind the car door, they were immediately enveloped by a dense flashing light. But when they saw a strange figure in the viewfinder, they stopped again, dumbfounded.
“Who is this person?”
“I don’t know.”
“I’ve seen him, I’ve seen him, it’s Yang-ge’s junior brother!”
“Fei something…”
The tall man lowered his head slightly, looking down toward the group of poisonous mushrooms which had sprouted from dark soil.
“Fei Chang, that powerful Fei Chang.”
Then, that powerful Fei Chang walked around the entire car, to the driver’s seat, under their intense gaze.
He walked slowly, as if he were taking a stroll in a courtyard, each step landing in time with their heartbeats. From start to finish, no one dared to breathe, to stop him, or to ask him what he was doing.
The driver had already vacated the driver’s seat.
Fei Chang sat down, closed the door, and cast an expressionless look at the crowd outside the car window–
–At the same time, he slammed on the gas pedal, spun the steering wheel, turned the car around sharply, and slipped between the two vans, rushing out from that narrow space!
The illegitimate fans didn’t realize what had happened until the exhaust had sprayed all over their faces. Their sharp shrieks were like a group of plucked chickens, as they urged the Wuling Hongguang cars to give chase.
Fei Chang’s driving skills were unexpectedly good. The chasing drivers were all old fritters1[Old youtiao means someone who is very experienced.], but they just couldn’t catch up to this cumbersome nanny car. Several times, he was clearly flanked, but he could still find an opportunity to break out of the encirclement.
The heavier the car, the harder it is to drive it quickly, because it will “drift”. Without strong hands, one wouldn’t dare to exceed 802[80 mph is roughly 130km/h.] before stopping.
However, Fei Chang, who was too scared to pet a hedgehog on a show, was very bold right now. The nanny car kept accelerating, and the window glass on both sides shook under the huge wind resistance.
Inside the car, the three little assistants and the driver were huddled together, trembling. Only Chen Yueyang’s eyes were bright, unable to look away from Fei Chang.
From his position, he could only see the back of Fei Chang’s head and a honey-colored ear. For the first time, Chen Yueyang learned that when Fei Chang was nervous, his ears would move constantly. It was also the first time Chen Yueyang learned that at such a critical moment, he actually wanted to touch Fei Chang’s ears.
After the cumbersome nanny car consecutively performed “Speed”, “Fast and Furious” and “Initial D” under Fei Chang’s hands, the police car finally stopped those three daredevil Wuling Hongguangs at the exit of the highway.
A dozen fans filed out from the three vehicles. Who knew how those tiny cars could pack in so many people.
Chen Yueyang frowned, seeing that there were many adolescent faces amidst those illegitimate fans, even some underage children.
Their faces were full of excitement. Even while they were being questioned by the police, they couldn’t stop taking sneak shots of Chen Yueyang with their phones.
In consideration for their young age, coupled with the matter of “no serious consequences”, they were only chastised by the police. Even the drivers were only detained for 15 days.
Fei Chang was extremely dissatisfied and protested, “Police uncle, they’ve already forced us to this extent. Do we have to get into a car crash to be considered a serious consequence?”
The police said, “We are also very helpless in this matter. The law doesn’t stipulate that the mentally disabled must go to jail, you see.”
It can only be said that this is the price of fame. Chen Yueyang chose to enter the entertainment circle, and he chose to become a public figure. Inescapable gazes and prying eyes were the price he had to pay.
Then the police said, “Also, who did you call uncle? Take out your license. You were driving so fast, usually you don’t just speed a little, right?”
When other artists went to perform on shows, if they brought an ID card, that was already good. But Fei Chang would carry a small bag with all of his documents. He didn’t just bring his driver’s license, he even brought his medical insurance card.
Fei Chang showed his driver’s license to the police.
“Just got your license? From your skills, you don’t seem like a novice driver.”
“Well, I’ve won a grand slam in QQ Speed3[A racing game.].”
“…”
Fei Chang was truly skilled in both civil and martial matters4[A set phrase, used to describe emperors or officials who were good at both governance and waging war.].
After the police left, Fei Chang returned the steering wheel to the driver and sat back next to Chen Yueyang.
His face was full of gloom, like a giraffe provoked by gophers. He clearly wanted to stomp them to death, but he couldn’t do it.
However, Chen Yueyang could see things clearly.
The entertainment industry was very similar to the animal world. The food chain was one link connected to the next.
He was a lively and intelligent Tibetan antelope. He could even retreat from business dealings surrounded by lions. He had escaped from the leering eyes of black-handed capitalists, from sleazy paparazzi. So what could a few illegitimate gophers who couldn’t even be served on the table count for?
Chen Yueyang was clearly the “victim”, but he took the initiative to comfort Fei Chang. “It’s okay, nothing happened to me.”
“…”
“Don’t put on this expression. Come, give your senior brother a smile.”
“…”
“…I was clearly trying to make you smile, why are you crying again?”
Fei Chang felt wronged. Even though he didn’t know how he was wronged, he just couldn’t control his tears, and they kept falling down. His crying was both dirty and ugly, even his snot came out.
Chen Yueyang wasn’t disgusted, and he leaned in to wipe his tears. But the more he wiped, the more there were.
Fei Chang suddenly grabbed his senior brother’s wrist, so hard that Chen Yueyang’s wrist turned red.
Chen Yueyang ignored the pain and asked him, “What’s the matter?”
Fei Chang cried so much that he was hiccuping. “Senior brother, you, you, are you still short of bodyguards?”
“No shortage.”
“But I want to be your bodyguard.”
“You don’t want to be an entertainer? Don’t you like to record shows? Last time you said on the show that you like watching the audience laugh.”
Fei slumped his shoulders and looked at him through a veil of tears. “But I prefer to see the people I like living peacefully.”
“…” Chen Yueyang was speechless.
For a while the car was quiet. Then Chen Yueyang said, “You’re a good seed. In the future, there will be countless people who will like you. If you give up the celebrity path, your boss won’t agree.”
“Won’t agree about what? My contract is about to expire.”
“The contract can be renewed when it expires.”
“Then I won’t renew it! I don’t want to work for capitalists anyway!” Fei Chang spoke very harshly, in a deafening tone.
Chen Yueyang gave him a funny look. “Fei Chang, why is it that you still don’t know whose person you are?”
